Forensic Expert - Accident Reconstruction
Lance Phy is an Accident Reconstructionist with Aperture (formerly CAC Forensics). Lance specializes in the investigation, reconstruction, and analysis of motorcycle, passenger car, and commercial vehicle crashes. Lance has over 30 years of experience in this field and shifted his focus specifically to accident reconstruction in 2005. Over the course of his career, Lance has investigated more than 4,000 crashes and has testified in both state and federal courts across the country.
Lance specializes in investigating motorcycle accidents. Prior to Aperture, Lance was a motorcycle police officer in the Houston area and has been riding motorcycles regularly for more than two decades. Lance has conducted case-specific studies of motorcycling in the real-world traffic environment, paying special attention to visibility, conspicuity, acceleration, swerving, and braking performance. He regularly tests the capabilities of a motorcycle to inform his opinions on rider performance, crash causation, and crash avoidance. Lance has even earned a motorcycle instructor certification from the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF).
Lance has completed specialized study in accident reconstruction at the Traffic Institute at Northwestern University, Texas A&M University, and the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). Lance is an Accredited Traffic Accident Reconstructionist (ACTAR) and a member of the Motorcycle Instructors Association of Texas (MIAT), National Association of Professional Accident Reconstruction Specialists (NAPARS), and the Texas Association of Accident Reconstruction Specialists (TAARS).
